UTAG INTENSIFIES STRIKE ON 5TH AUGUST 2021

There is a confusion all over the country as to whether or not the University Teachers are returning soon from the strike. This has put UTAG in the position of clearing the atmosphere for all citizens of the country.

Prior to this, UTAG complained that the government is not making the conditions of service for the lecturers attractive. This was because salaries of members of UTAG was cut down during 2012. The reduction they say was more than 50% of their salary. Aside that, the standard of their conditions of service keeps reducing.

According to UTAG, the painful part of the matter is that, the government was not ready to even negotiate with them to come to a compromise and for that matter, they resumed a strike.

Today August 5, 2021; UTAG released a letter to the public declaring their decision so far even after meeting the National Labour Commission (NEC). NEC intended to end the strike by negotiating with UTAG executive, but unfortunately, the letter indicates that the strike is not ending until further notice. UTAG promises to resume to work on the condition that the government restores their deducted salary in 2012.

The following were some basic statements from the UTAG Executive body:

  • Members of UTAG should continue with the strike.

  • NEC and negotiation Team should stand their ground and not compromise till we are restored to our 2012 basic salary of $2084 (payable in cedi equivalence).

  • NEC should engage team of experts (legal, labour, etc.) to fight their course.

The letter from the body is as below:
