The Senior Staff Association - Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) declare an indefinite strike due to the government's refusal to negotiate with them amicably.
On July 28, 2021, the University Teachers Association of Ghana held a press conference threatening the government of Ghana of a strike by all UTAG members if the government continues to turn a deaf hear to them. Surprisingly, the government has not responded to them. This has finally orchestrated the said strike to be declared through two different letters which were written from two associations of the same interest.
The first letter was written by the Senior Staff Association - Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG). In the letter, the senior staff indicated that; The National Executives of Councils of the Senior Staff Association - Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSSAG), directs all members across the sixteen(16) public universities of the country to resume a strike on Monday, August 2, 2021, as said during the press conference recently.
According to the two co-associations, the strike is declared to occur due to the government's refusal to fulfill an agreement between the two parties. The strike declared will be until further notice; thus indefinite strike.
The reasons were explained in detail in the letter below:
Notwithstanding this first letter, the University Teachers Association of Ghana also releases another letter concerning the same resumption of strike on the same date as indicated in the first letter.
This letter indicated that it is on the behalf of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of UTAG. It stated that UTAG wishes to inform its members to withdraw from all academic activities until further notice. These activities include teaching, marking examination scripts, the conduct of examination, invigilation, and finally, processing of examination results.
The details are as in the letter below:
