Professor Nana Aba Ampiah Amfo was a Pro-Vice-Chancellor in charge of Academic and Student Affairs until July 26, 2021, where the UG Council in a short meeting considered Section 10(2)(b) of the University of Ghana Act, 2010, Act 806, and Section 6(3) of the University of Ghana Statutes and decided to appoint the senior of the two Pro-Vice Chancellors to act in place of Professor Ebenezer Oduro Owusu.
This has caused a breeze of opinion from most feminists around the globe. The matter so far has been that major offices of the University of Ghana are controlled by abled females. This is to say that, Pro-Chancellor of UG, Chairperson of the UG Council, Registrar of UG, and the newest appointed Vice-Chancellor are all females.
The appointment has portrayed Ghana as a country gradually having a number of major female leaders. Thus, all the two major Universities in Ghana ( KNUST and UG ) are currently having female Vice-Chancellors. Not forgetting the First-Ever female Vice-Chancellor of a Ghanaian University - Prof. Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang of UCC who doubled as Former Minister of Education.
The appointment of Prof. Nana Aba Ampiah Amfo takes effect from August 1, 2021.
We hope to see more of this ahead of us as a nation and then hope to see a change in the mindset of some of our Ghanaian female youth as they tend to climb higher in terms of leadership.
