UN SECRETARY-GENERAL CALLS FOR AN END TO NIGERIA'S RIOT #ENDSARS

In accordance with information from Stephane Dujarric, spokesman of the Secretary-General of the UNO, the secretary General following recent development in Nigeria has called for an end to reported police brutality and abuses. He has condemned the videos of escalation that occurred on 20 October in Lagos, which resulted in multiple deaths and caused many injuries.
In this regard, the Secretary-General, Mr. Antonio Guterres, has appealed to the Nigerian Authorities to investigate these incidents and hold the perpetrators accountable. He also urged the Security forces to act at all times with maximum restrictions and called on protesters to demonstrate peacefully and to refrain from violence.

“The Secretary-General encourages the authorities to swiftly explore avenues to de-escalate the situation. He reiterates the readiness of the United Nations to support national efforts towards finding a solution”, Mr. Stephane Dujarric stated. Mr. Antonio Guteres further expressed his condolences to the bereaved families and wished those injured a quick recovery.
