EC: VOTER TRANSFER COMPILATION

The Electoral Commission issued a Press Release on the 16th of October 2020, to inform the General Public of the upcoming compilation of the Transferred voter's list and Proxy voters list for 2020 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections.
As stated by the Electoral Commission, this exercise will take place from Tuesday, 20th October 2020 to Thursday, 22nd October, 2020. The following are directives and conditions the Commission provided under the Transferred voters list;
According to the Commission,
A registered voter who is a student or a member of the security services on special duties and is a resident in a constituency other than that in which He/ She registered, may apply to the Returning Officer of the constituency where He/ She is resident for His/ Her name to be entered onto the Transferred voter's list of a polling station in that constituency.
Applicants shall provide physical proof of the new residence and shall sign a Declaration by the Returning Officer before assignment to a new Polling station.
Note that: The Transferred voter's window is available to students and Personnel of Security Agencies only. As such, each of these categories is required to provide a form of identification to authenticate their status.
The Commission also passed out some directives and conditions to
citizens voting by Proxy. These directives include;
A registered voter who due to ill-health or absence from the constituency will be unable to vote on the polling day may apply to the Returning Officer of the Constituency or the Commission for the name of the selected proxy to be entered onto the proxy list.
The Applicant shall complete a Proxy form in quadruplicates. The Proxy Form would be endorsed by the Returning Officer and a copy will be given to the said Applicant.
A person appointed as a Proxy may vote in the elections at the Polling station where the registered voter was assigned to vote at the time of the registration. The provision relating to voting procedure shall apply.
A person shall not appoint more than one person as a proxy to vote on His/ Her behalf at the Election.
A person whose application to vote by Proxy is accepted and endorsed by the Returning Officer of the constituency or the commission, shall not vote in the election in respect of which the Application was granted.
In light of the above directives and conditions assigned by the Electoral Commission, all affected citizens are encouraged to participate so as to be able to vote in the 2020 General Elections.
A proxy refers to the authority to represent someone else in an election or a person who is given the power or authority to stand in and vote for someone else during an election, due to certain considerable circumstances.
